Shares sold in UK weapons plant

An extra post, the Gov has sold off the last third of its shares in the-Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire to an American company.

This means that we no longer have a stake in the production of our Trident Missiles.

American companies now own two thirds, and a British company owns a third of Aldermaston's operating company, AWE Management.

The Ministry of Defence of course said Britain's "sovereign interests" had been protected.

Couple of problems:

What is the Government thinking of? They go on and on about “National Security” and how we must be vigilant, and then sell off our only firkin interest in Nuclear Weapons Production.

The Americans are not exactly “Lilly White” when it comes to “losing” weapons and parts of weapons- Over 1000 Nuclear Weapon Parts Missing? Recently, the American Air Force has faced serious lapses in Nuclear weapons security. A bomber carried six nuclear bombs across the US without anyone in charge knowing about it, and nuclear nose cones were unintentionally shipped to Taiwan without anyone discovering the error for 18 months.

Who in the Gov came up with this gormless idea? What Plonker thought it was a good idea?

Are we so short of money that it overrides Security?

Personally I don’t think we should have these types of weapons but, with the world the way it is, they are probably a necessity. However the production of Trident Missiles in this country should be in OUR control, not some distant corporation.

Only time will tell-unfortunately.

That may be so but better to a U.S. company and not the EU.

WTF????
This world is getting ridiculous - we are now producing nuclear weapons for the world, with no controls, checks and balances??

Thank you Tony and Gordon for hastening the planet's destruction and the removal of Democratic States from the agenda

They are trying to sell of quite a lot of Defence. I don't know what they are thinking of.

They seem to want to off-load every responsibility they have, I don't know why either
