AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Don’t get too excited, it’s just that I visited “Frensham Common” yesterday, something I haven’t done for, well almost four years, it is a great place for peace and quiet, and was a favourite walking place for Mrs A and I.

Excuse the poor quality of the photos, numb nuts here took his digital camera but forgot to charge the batteries, so I had to use my phone.

There are two “ponds” on the common, the first is the “small pond”, nice sandy “beaches” acres of reed beds and woodlands, plus a boathouse, that is now just a house, but years ago you could rent canoes and spend the day falling in the water.

Sadly there are no boats and the water is full of “blue green algae” which apparently does nasty things to your body and that of dogs.

The first picture is of the boathouse, just visible above the reeds, I couldn’t get a better shot because the way to it was blocked by people who had let their dogs swim right beside the signs telling them not to.

The second is the rest of the pond from the same viewpoint.

And the third is a bit further round.

Then there is the “great pond” where you can swim (depending on the algae), it has the same sandy “beaches” and is used by Frensham Yacht Club for….well sailing.

As well as skating in the winter.

There are acres of woodland, again great for walking, and which harbours parrots. In the summer there is a small “cafĂ©” which does very tasty bacon butties and ice cream (not bacon).

The last picture is of Tilford Green, where many a Sunday afternoon was spent sitting outside the pub watching cricket.

All of these places are within ten miles of home and remind me how lucky we are to live in such a green and pleasant land.

More to come, another day (maybe)

Few people know how to take a walk. The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye for nature, good humour, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence and nothing too much.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
