DID YOU KNOW?

The can opener was invented 48 years after cans were introduced.

Two British scientists called Charles Kao and George Hockham working for the British company Standard Telecommunication invented optical fibre in 1966.

Leonardo da Vinci never built the inventions he designed.

Ray Tomlinson sent the first electronic mail, or “email”, in 1972. It was also his idea to use the @ sign to separate the name of the user from the name of the computer.

Sort of takes the magic out of it doesn’t it?

And finally a tribute to the man who caused more damage to the world than anybody else.

Mr Thomas Midgley JR.

Thomas Midgley, Jr. this is his Bio.

Mr. Midgley invented Tetraethyl lead, the “additive” to petrol that poisoned the earth, he then invented, dichloroflouromethane -- the first of the Freon’s. Which damaged the Ozone Layer.

He contracted polio when he was 51. As he lost the use of his legs, he invented a harness to get himself out of bed. On Nov. 2, 1944, he tangled in the gadget. It strangled him.

Natural justice or not?

Just to even the score, Mr Midgley did not invent these chemicals out of malice, but in order to make the world a better place, which they did until bits started to fall off it.
