A Few of my favourite things

Enough of the bile and ranting, as I sit here looking out of the window at the garden washed by the rain my thoughts turned to pleasant topics.

Weather is one of my favourite things, I love a good thunderstorm on a hot summer’s day, and the smell of the rain on the patio afterwards, the smell of freshly mown grass, and of the sweet “Turkish delight” fragrance of the many roses scattered through the flower beds.

The sight of my cat when she is asleep, curled into a ball of fur, all legs and feet, the sound of children laughing, the pleasure given by music, or a good book, a good meal that leaves me full and nourished.

The smell of the sea, and the sight of sails far out on the horizon, the soothing of the waves breaking on the shore, and the feel of warm sand between my toes.

The company of good friends, who need no reassurance of companionship, and do not feel the need to tread lightly for fear of offence, the sight of the green rolling hills that surround me, the expectance of spring, and the sight of the red, gold and oranges of Autumn.

A good walk which leaves me tired but satisfied, and bumping into old friends for a catch up, a good soak in a hot bath and jumping into bed with clean sheets that smell of the outdoors, sitting in the park and watching people going about their business.

The sound of water bubbling over rocks, or a weir, or pouring into an empty lock at the nearby canal, the sight of mist on a lake in the early morning, or the sun dimly shining through the fog, the feel of a cool breeze on a hot day, when the air is heavy with the weight of summer.
I could go on but I am sure you have just as many favourite things.

Silly old sod I may be, cynical I may be but there are good things that abound in our world, and the best thing is: they cost nothing, they are not influenced by governments or inane laws, they are available to us gratis, if we only take a bit of time and look for them.
